A Strange Day in July
He threw with all his might, but the third stone came skipping back...

"There's a divinity that shapes our ends, Rough-hew them how we will."

I think this song is talking about what guides our actions throughout life. Free-will vs. predestination, and logic vs. emotion, while alluding to death (both physical death, and emotional death).

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line (Listening for God and not hearing Him?)
Up to the platform of surrender (Life is a show, world a stage, whatnot.)
I was brought but I was kind (No clue what this song is talking about here. Brought but kind? What?)
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door (Fear of death, the unknown, change.)
Close your eyes (Leap of faith, death, blindness.)
Clear your heart... (Let go of emotion, or freedom from emotional influence.)
Cut the cord (Death? Freedom from external control? Cord as in string, as in the strings of a puppet, as in a dancer?)

Are we human?
Or are we dancer? (A puppet? Influenced by external forces? Is that force God? Free-will vs. predestination? Or maybe a puppet being moved by the force of emotion, as dancing is an expression of emotion, and emotion clouds/mediates cold logic?)
My sign is vital (Play on words. Vital signs, life, importance, or symbolic of life, symbolic of importance, but in actuality meaningless?)
My hands are cold (Fear, anxiety, death, emotionless, touch, humanity.)
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer (Crying out to a God who doesn't answer?)
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well..
You've got to let me go (Emotional death? Freedom from emotional influence over action? Or is this sarcasm, saying that none of these positives emotions mean a damn thing if everything is predestined, anyway?)

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answers
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Will your system be alright (Body? Mind? Beliefs? God's great plan?)
When you dream of home tonight? (Death? Freedom?)
There is no message we're receiving (God hasn't said a damn thing as of yet, or checking for a sign of life/pulse, etc.)
Let me know is your heart still beating (Translation: Say something, God. Tell me you aren't dead. Also, human death.)

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answers

You got to let me know

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answers
Are we human
Or are we dancer?

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Are we human
Or are we dancer?
